The marine tubenose goby (Proterorhinus marmoratus) is a brackish-water species of fish in the Gobiidae family. It is widely distributed in desalinated parts of the Black Sea and Sea of Azov, near the coasts of Bulgaria, Georgia, Romania, and Ukraine.

During the long period this fish was considered as only representative of the genus Proterorhinus. But it was redescribed as several cryptic species based on the molecular analysis[1]. Now P. marmoratus is considered only for marine and brackish waters of the Black Sea basin. All cases of registrations of P. marmoratus in fresh waters mean the western tubenose goby P. semilunaris in deed.
